The countdown to one of Disney’s upcoming game-changing MCU projects, Eternals is nearly finished. With the latest Superhero team up from Marvel right around the corner, here are 3 reasons to get excited for Eternals.
Thanos Origin Story?

One of Marvel’s household names in the bad guy department, Thanos is widely known for his villainous role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Thanos’ origin was only briefly explored in those movies so fans never really got to see his past displayed on the big screen.
Thanos of Earth 616 is actually an Eternal, his purple skin comes from his deviant gene. He was one of the many lab rats used by the Celestials who underwent an experiment to gain superhuman abilities during the early ages of mankind. It was the disgust aimed towards Thanos from the beautiful people around him that transformed him into a villain.
Angelina Jolie will take on the role of Thanos’ cousin Thena in the movie. This is a plausible plot point to work around that could not only give us an origin story for the Mad Titan, but also his close family members.
A Game Changer
One of Eternals early promises is to bring something new and fresh to the MCU. Judging by the trailer, fans will be receiving just that.
“The impact that ‘Eternals‘ will have on the MCU will be nothing less than redefining the cinematic universe,” according to Kevin Feige. The Eternals will undergo an origin story makeover which will differ from their classic backstory. The extent of those changes remains to be seen.
There is also a chance that we might experience the debut of the planet-consuming menace, Galactus, given that we’re exploring new areas of the cinematic universe. After the events of Eternals, we can probably expect to see an Eternals & Avengers crossover depending on what occurs in Marvel’s next big project. The possibilities are endless and they will truly be a sight to behold. Regardless of what happens, getting something new and authentic is just what the MCU needs right now.
Real Diversity
This new story is one that will be brought together by a large and diverse cast. According to Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo in the movie, the way diversity is handled in Eternals “wasn’t to make a point”, it was to show how “things have always been” which “felt extremely natural”. Considering this movie will be based around the history of humanity, this makes a lot of sense even if only considering it from a plot perspective.
The Eternals will have gay characters, people of color and also a deaf actress. A real diverse array of actors and characters that really hasn’t been seen in the MCU up to this point.
