The Joker is undoubtedly the most iconic comic book Villain of all time. The clown prince of crime has been portrayed by many actors throughout the years from TV Series to Movies to Video Games.
Heath Ledger, Jack Nicholson, Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Hamill have all given extraordinary performances as the Batman villain but who could play The Joker next? These are our top 5 picks.
1. Willem Dafoe

Willem Dafoe is an incredible actor. He did such an amazing job playing the Green Goblin in Spider-man No Way Home that fans now want to see him play The Joker.
There is a scene in No Way Home where his character laughs maniacally as he’s being punched in the face by Spider-man, giving off some serious Joker vibes.
Dafoe would make the perfect Joker but the casting seems unlikely due to the actor’s age. At 66 years old, he may not have the longevity that the studio could look for.
2. Bill Skarsgard

Bill Skarsgard is another hugely popular choice to play The Joker. Skarsgard already plays a crazy clown character as Pennywise in IT so it’s not a huge stretch to imagine him as the DC comics villain.
If the fan art interpretation above is anything to go by, Bill Skarsgard would at the very least look the part.
3. Barry Keoghan

Barry Keoghan seemed like an unlikely choice the play The Joker until very recently. However, new reports are now suggesting that Keoghan has already been cast as the clown prince of crime and will feature as The Joker in the upcoming movie ‘The Batman‘. Something that was even commented on by the actors Brother who seemed to confirm the reports.
The Irishman certainly has the acting chops to play the character as we saw when he played Druig in Eternals. The actor’s distinctive look could very well be something that the studio is looking for.
4. Jim Carrey

Next up we have Jim Carrey. Carrey is no stranger to the DC universe as he has already played The Riddler a number of years ago in Batman Forever.
Comic book movies have come a long way since then though and Carrey may well relish the opportunity to play a villain in a movie that will no doubt have a darker tone this time around.
5. Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston is most well known for his role as the God of mischief, Loki, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It’s entirely plausible that the actor could jump the fence to the DC Universe to play The Joker. We already know he can play a villain full of mischief and certainly has age on his side when compared to most of the other names on this list.
