Although the actor has never starred in a solo Batman movie, Ben Affleck has played the caped crusader on three different occasions. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, a Suicide Squad cameo and 2017’s Justice League have all starred Affleck as The Dark Knight. It could even be argued that he’s played the character on four occasions if The Snyder Cut is included.

However, the actor has now confirmed that the upcoming movie The Flash will be his final performance as The Dark Knight.

Ben Affleck is done with Batman

In a recent interview with Herald Sun, Affleck talked about his time as Batman and about how he finally figured out the best way to play the character while making The Flash. Here is what he had to say:

I have never said this — this is hot off the presses — but maybe my favorite scenes in terms of Batman and the interpretation of Batman that I have done were in the Flash movie. I hope they maintain the integrity of what we did because I thought it was great and really interesting — different, but not in a way that is incongruent with the character.

Who knows? Maybe they will decide that it doesn’t work, but when I went and did it, it was really fun and really, really satisfying and encouraging, and I thought, ‘Wow — I think I have finally figured it out.

Affleck also went on to talk about how 2017’s Justice League was one of his worst experiences, both in life and as an actor.

[Justice League] was a bad experience because of a confluence of things: my own life, my divorce, being away too much, the competing agendas and then Zack’s personal tragedy (Snyder’s daughter Autumn died by suicide in 2017) and the reshooting.

The actor recently told The Los Angelas Times “It just was the worst experience. It was awful. It was everything that I didn’t like about this. That became the moment where I said, ‘I’m not doing this anymore.‘”

To be fair to Affleck, it appears as though his reasoning has a lot to do with his respect for the character and the fanbase. The actor stated that “I’m not going to be happy doing this. The person who does this should love it“.

The news follows on from previous reports that The Flash will be used to reboot the DCEU. Batgirl and Supergirl are expected to join the Justice League while Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman will no longer be a part of that Universe.
