Din Djarin vs Boba Fett

Din Djarin vs Boba Fett. Who wins?

Part of the fun of fictional worlds with a barrage of characters is comparing them. That’s certainly the case in the Star Wars universe. There’s an endless string of Jedi, Sith, bounty hunters, droids, and more to speculate wildly about. The recent slate of Disney+ series bringing more characters to the forefront of that same universe has only made things more fun. That’s certainly true of anyone who operates under the name Mandalorian.

The number of prominent Mandalorians in Star Wars started reaching new heights in the animated series The Clone Wars. More recently, live-action series have put the focus on characters like Bo-Katan Kryze and Boba Fett. At the same time, new characters such as Din Djarin, The Armorer, and Koska Reeves are becoming bigger names. But a big question is how Boba Fett and Din Djarin stack up against each other. It’s a Star Wars Tale of the Tape.

Upbringing and Experience

Boba Fett and Din Djarin took very different paths to end up in roughly the same place. On one hand, Boba Fett is the son/clone of feared Mandalorian bounty hunter, Jango Fett. He was raised from moment one to follow in his father’s footsteps. While Jango wasn’t born a Mandalorian, he was a foundling like Din Djarin and was essentially adopted into the culture. Jango would pass down everything he learned to a young Boba.

Din Djarin’s parents were killed by battle droids when he was a boy. He was rescued as a foundling by Mandalorians and raised as one of them. Like Jango and Boba, he too was not a “true” Mandalorian but a cultural one. At the same time, Din was not born and raised to be a warrior the way Boba was. There are certain instincts that come with that, something Djarin would find difficult to compete with.

Winner: Boba Fett

Fighting Styles

It’s hard to deny the experience that Boba Fett brings to the table. He was in the business for decades, going all the way back to the Clone Wars. He’s a battle hardened warrior, to say the least. Additionally, living on Tatooine after escaping the Sarlacc Pit changed his game dramatically. He adopted a more savage fighting style that complemented his existing skills quite well.

But after watching Din Djarin in combat, it’s hard to imagine that Boba would stand a chance. Djarin’s training by his Mandalorian sect was incredibly thorough. Fett was trained by Jango up until his death. For the most part, he was raised by other bounty hunters. Din’s Mandalorian training was complete and much more thorough. His fighting skills are unparalleled, something Moff Gideon found out first hand.

Winner: Din Djarin

Weaponry

Both Boba Fett and Din Djarin each have their own unique weaponry to choose from. That makes sense since they each have their own fighting styles. Each one of them has traditional Mandalorian vambraces loaded with various tricks and weapons. This tech was developed during the era of Mandalore’s war against the Jedi as a means of counteracting their Force powers. And they were, to an extent, effective.

Each one of them carries blasters and explosives, and uses them all effectively. What gives Din Djarin an edge is one specific item in his arsenal; the Darksaber. It is key weapon, one that Boba Fett can only counter with Tusken Raider melee gear. It’s just not enough, though.

Winner: Din Djarin

Armor

When it comes to Mandalorian armor, the name of the game is Beskar. This impressive metal can take a hit from virtually anything. That includes the aforementioned lightsabers as well as pretty much any blaster. Both Boba Fett and Din Djarin wear Beskar armor. Boba’s was customized from Jango Fett’s armor. The Armorer built Djarin’s armor using Beskar he earned on bounty hunting assignments.

Boba’s armor might be older but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. On the other hand, Din’s armor has not been tested in battle the same way Boba’s though it does offer much better coverage. In the end, neither man really has an advantage in the armor department. They both wear solid Beskar gear and know how to use it in combat.

Winner: Din Djarin (Just about)

Overall Winner: Din Djarin

While Boba Fett is a more savvy, experienced fighter, that doesn’t change the fact that Din Djarin is, just barely, the superior warrior. His Beskar armor offers a bit more coverage as well as being rigged with a better assortment of weapons. On top of that, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the Darksaber is an incredible weapon for Djarin to have in his arsenal, one that Boba simply does not have an answer for.

It’s also worth noting that Djarin is younger than Fett. Again, Fett is the more experienced warrior of the two. He knows tricks that Din has never even heard of. But in a straight up fight, Djarin will have him beat. Well, unless Fennec Shand is around. Djarin wouldn’t even see her coming. Blaster fire would ring off his Beskar helmet, giving Fett the chance to swoop in for the kill.
