As many gamers will know, the current craving for superhero games within the gaming community is clear for all to see. This cry for content has been answered in part by Marvel’s Spider-Man, the Injustice series and for some, the slightly underwhelming Marvel’s Avengers. Many would argue that the path to superhero gaming success was paved by the Arkham trilogy, a series that explored the Batman franchise and offered some truly compelling gameplay and narrative. Now, although Bruce and Batman’s story may be over, we all longed for more. So as a result, we have Gotham Knights to look forward to.
Bearing that in mind, we have put together 5 key reasons why you should be excited about this upcoming DC title. So join us as we explain why Gotham Knights should be on your radar ahead of it’s release in 2022.
#1 – Everyone Has a Voice
It goes without saying that in previous Batman-related titles, two characters stole the show. These being the caped crusader himself and Mark Hamill’s Joker. However, thanks to the Arkham saga drawing to a close, the series now turns to the sidekicks and lesser-known heroes, giving them a spotlight to shine under. You’ll get to explore the stories of Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Red Hood. This will not only allow for a more diverse and intriguing story. It allows for causal fans to dive deeper into the world of Gotham and this is a great way to introduce fans to these characters.
#2 – A Change to the Format
The Arkham series became synonymous with a fluid and intense combat style and single-player experience. However, it seems that the Gotham Knights series intends to try something new and will try to offer a co-op friendly experience not unlike Spiderman: Friend or Foe. Although we assume it will be a lot more competently handled. This will allow players to fight alongside one another, drop in and out as they choose and overall, offer much more versatile and diverse gameplay options for the player.
#3 – A Host of Treacherous Villians
Although we don’t know the whole cast of villains that we will have within this title, we do know a few. Thanks to a teasing post on the Gotham Knight’s official Twitter, we know that Poison Ivy will be in the cast. Plus, Mr.Freeze is also a confirmed villain for this title. Then to top it all off, the Joker was shown during a gameplay demo as a playable character. So perhaps the crazy clown has joined the good guys. We can only imagine what kind of chaos that will cause but it’s an interesting turn of events nonetheless.
#4 – A Perfect Continuation
In an upcoming interview conducted by Veryali Gaming, Chris Massimine, the producer working on Gotham Knights mentioned that this game was a great way to continue the story of the Arkham series and allow a new generation of gamers to access the series. He also said that he can’t reveal whether Mark Hamill will be lending his vocal talents to this project. However, the fact that he didn’t deny it gives us hope that the Star Wars alum may be gifting us with more lunacy as the Joker. We have our fingers crossed.
#5 – Taking Their Time
While delays are the last thing that a fan wants for upcoming games they are excited about, we are here to tell you that it’s a blessing in disguise. Through WB decision to delay this game until 2022, we now know that this developer cares deeply about the overall quality of the title and don’t want to rush a game to the digital storefront, only for the fans to hate the final product. We need only mention Cyberpunk 2077 to get our point across. It may be difficult to be patient but believe us, it will be worth it.
