Daredevil has been around for a long time. Real name Matthew Murdock, the character made his Marvel debut in Daredevil #1 all the way back in 1964. The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen rose massively in popularity thanks to Netflix’s Daredevil series which starred Charlie Cox as the protagonist. And now the the series is about to rebooted over on Disney+ with no release date yet provided. A popular question that fans commonly have is how does Daredevil see?
Matt Murdock lost his sight when he was just a young boy after an accident involving a chemical truck. When the chemicals from this truck got into his eyes, Matthew went blind. While at this point he lost his sight forever, it wasn’t until much later in life that he managed to tune his senses to become Daredevil.
When his Dad was killed at a young age, Matt turned to an old man named Stick for guidance. Stick trained Matt how to defend himself and also how to see the world even though he was blind. Matt went on to hone these skills over a number years and used his abilities to become Daredevil and fight crime.
Daredevil can see through the use of four hyper-sensitive senses – Hearing, Touch, Smell and Taste. Matt Murdock combines these senses to piece together a picture of the world around him which is infinitely more detailed than that of a normal person.
- Daredevil has access to Radar-Sense. This allows him to use his brain’s electromagnetic waves to bounce off surfaces around him. The waves return with details on how far away objects are as well as the density of the object. By combining this with his ability to use Echolocation, it’s impossible to catch the Marvel superhero off guard.
- Daredevil’s superhuman sense of touch allows him to read by passing his fingers over the ink on a page.
- Daredevil uses his incredible hearing ability to sense if someone is lying. He does this by listening to the a changes in a person’s heartbeat.
Even though he is blind, by using these abilities, Daredevil can see better than any human could dream of.
