Deadpool has become a hugely popular character in recent years since Ryan Reynolds played the character in 2016’s Deadpool. However, the Merc with the mouth has actually only existed for a relatively short amount of time. Deadpool was created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld in 1991 and made his first appearance in New Mutants #98.
Deadpool is a Marvel character
While Deadpool is owned by Marvel, the character is actually heavily influenced by DC’s Deathstroke. They even share very similar names. Deadpool’s real name is Wade Wilson whereas Deathstroke’s real name is Slade Wilson. Marvel didn’t even try to hide that one.

That isn’t all though. The two characters also share very similar looking outfits as well as employing fighting styles that aren’t a million miles apart from each other.
But while Deathstroke has had a largely unsuccessful time on the big screen thus far, Deadpool has been an enormous success for Marvel. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 each brought in almost $800 million dollars at the box office. An incredible achievement considering the budget for the first movie was only $58 million dollars.
Marvel Studios’ Deadpool
Deadpool 3 will be the first movie made by Marvel Studios starring Wade Wilson. The previous two installments were made by 20th Century Fox as they still owned the film rights for the character at the time, before Disney bought the company in 2019. One thing is for certain – Wade Wilson will cause absolute havoc when he does finally make his MCU debut. Interactions with the the likes of Spider-man and Captain America will be incredible to watch when it does happen. For now though, as it stands, Marvel haven’t provided a release date for the movie. All we can do is sit back, relax and enjoy the wait, safe in the knowledge that Marvel will do the character justice when it does eventually hit cinemas.
