Jon Bernthal reportedly returning as The Punisher in the MCU

The Punisher star Jon Bernthal is reportedly set to reprise his role as the titular character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bernthal, who played Frank Castle in Netflix’s The Punisher series has always said he would like to play the character again. However, he also stated that he would only do it if the character was not ‘watered down’.

It needs to be a level of darkness. I think if there’s any let up on that character, you do a disservice to the character, to every iteration of the character, to every comic book that’s come before, and to all of the unbelievable fans of the character. This character means so much to people in the military. So like I said before, it’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can do it right, and I’m only interested in doing it right.

A soft reboot for The Punisher?

In December fans saw both Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin return. Daredevil in Spider-man No Way Home and Kingpin in the Hawkeye series. Both actor’s had previously played their respective characters as part of Netflix’s Marvel lineup, meaning it’s certainly possible that the same could be done for Bernthal’s Punisher.

According to recent reports from reliable scooper @MytimetoshineH, Jon Bernthal will indeed be returning as The Punisher.

It seems like Bernthal may have gotten his wish. We know it’s something that Disney are willing to do considering Kevin Feige has already confirmed that Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU will be R-rated. Let’s be honest, it really wouldn’t work any other way.

There are also rumblings that Frank Castle could even link up with The Midnight Sons when they are finally introduced in the MCU. Exciting times ahead.

For now all we can do is sit back, relax and enjoy. As always, thanks for reading.
