Firstly – Why Batman?

Batman Statue Collector: “My earliest memory of Batman is from the scooby-doo show when I was a kid. Every once in a while Batman would guest star. I remember specifically that The Joker and The Penguin were always the main Villains. Thats when I fell in love with The Joker. The Joker to me has always been my favorite Villain, my favorite character of all time. There’s a lot of other Villains out there that I love too like Darth Vader and everyone in between but Joker has always really spoken to me.

From the Batman side of things I always really liked that he was a real person. I didn’t necessarily identify with those other superheroes that had the superpowers. They were always cool but Batman was a real person. He had trauma in his life. What he did with that trauma was he decided to fight crime. Iron Man is also one of my favorites and he’s also a real person. He uses his money and technology to fight crime, to fight evil and I feel like Batman is the exact same way. Using his resources to do good in this world. That is why Batman spoke to me.

But also because of his Rogues Gallery. Apart from Spider-man, Batman has the best Rogues Gallery on the planet. Spider-man’s villains are amazing. But Batman’s rogues – Penguin, Two-Face, Riddler, Catwoman and the list goes on and on. There’s so many good characters that DC has created over the years. All the way up to now with characters like Batman who laughs. Batman can only be as a good as his villains and I think that is what has made him so great. The fact that he’s a real person and has an amazing gallery of rogues.”

How many pieces do you have in your collection?

Batman Statue Collector: “I just counted and I have over 40 high end statues. But I actually have over 50 statues if you count everything that I have. I primarily collect something called 1/3 scale. These are the large scale pieces that I have absolutely fallen in love with. I also have some life size busts and I also own some 1/4 scale pieces. 1/3 scale is my favorite though. They’re really large, they’re amazing, they have so much detail and its just absolutely amazing what these pieces bring because there’s just so much detail and I absolutely love collecting them.”

What is your favorite piece and why?

Batman Statue Collector – Favortie Piece

Batman Statue Collector: “I always go back to this Batman bust (pictured above). For whatever reason it speaks to me that it IS Batman. I always say that if my house was on fire which piece would I grab and that would probably be it. Sometimes that changes depending month or week, or even day! But I absolutely love this Batman. He’s just so stoic and represents Batman perfectly to me. I absolutely love it.

Lee Bermejo Joker Statue

Another piece that I love in my collection is the Lee Bermejo Joker. I’m a big Lee Bermejo fan. A great comic book artist and very realistic style and this Joker statue is just absolutely incredible. The detail on it. The head sculpts. They truly captured the perfect representation of Joker. This maniacal, crazy clown. The one I have i sculpted by Prime1Studio which is one of my favorite statue companies. High end to the max. they’re just absolutely phenomenal.”

Which piece in your collection is the most rare?

Joker Sideshow Collectibles

Batman Statue Collector: “All of these statues that I have, for the most part, I’ve collected over the past 4 years. There’s a Joker piece in my collection that is probably the most rare. It’s one of the original premium formats from DC, produced by Sideshow Collectibles. It’s just absolutely incredible. It has some cut and sow elements which means it does have some fabric on it including the polystone which is the sculpted stone. It’s a fantastic piece and I really really like it.

Mr. Freeze Statue

I also like Mr.Freeze from Prime1Studio. It’s not necessarily rare but it’s expensive and they didn’t make a ton of them. Not many collectors have it. It’s a massive piece with the ice shards, it’s quite incredible. It’s an Arkham Origins statue, so if you’ve played the video game then you’ll probably recognize that statue. I really love it.

Where do you buy your Batman Statues?

Batman Statue Collector: “Primarily I buy my statues from SideshowCollectibles.com! They are a statue manufacturer but they are also a distributor. They distribute all the different statues from all the different major companies. There are just so many different, great products you can order from them.

How much have you spent on your collection to date?

Batman Statue Collector: “I don’t want to know! *laughs*. My wallet is still screaming to this day every time I buy a new statue. But I will maybe let you do some math. The 1/3 scale pieces are usually about $1,000 but sometimes they are more. Sometimes they are closer to $2,000, it really just depends on the piece and the size of the piece.

The most I’ve ever spent on a piece is $2,000. That was a hard pill for me to swallow. I still cannot believe that I do that. Everytihng that I buy, is after my own expenses – for my home and my family. This is all just fun, this is just basically my hobby. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink. I don’t collect expensive cars. There’s a lot of money invested in this collection. It’s important for me to take care of it.

The big stuff is really really expensive. The small stuff range anywhere from $400-$600. It’s an expensive hobby to get into. Its very addictive but in my opinion it’s well worth it because it makes me happy.”

Anything you would like to add?

Batman Statue Collector: “Thank you GeeksGonnaGeek.com for having me on and I’d really like to give out some advice to people. Collecting is about a passion that you love. It’s something that you want to be surrounded by to celebrate maybe your childhood and things that you enjoy. There is no such thing as a bad collection. It’s all about what you want to collect. How you display it, how you light it. What kind of displays you have. What kind of display cabinets. However you want to present your collection. It doesn’t matter whether you have a giant collection or a small collection. It’s just whatever makes you happy. Collect what you love. Don’t worry about what other people are going to think about your collection. Life is short, collect what you love and you will be happier for it.
