Loki TVA

Who are Marvel’s TVA (Time Variance Authority)?

Based on the recent trailer for Marvel‘s upcoming Disney+ series Loki , it appears as though the TVA (Time Variance Authority) will have a large role to play in how events play out within the MCU. Here’s the question though: Who are Marvel’s TVA (Time Variance Authority) and what do they do exactly?

Time Variance Authority

The TVA is a specialized agency with the sole objective to keep tabs on reality, timelines, and the ever growing multiverse. All of it’s employees are born and bred specifically to complete this job alone. They are the ones that ensure people don’t go messing around with timelines by using time travel as they please. They even have the power to erase entire timelines from existence. Most of the employees that work at the TVA are actually clones of one another. This was done as a way to reduce conflict between staff members and improve efficiency. I mean it would be difficult to argue with a clone of yourself right? I can understand the twisted logic.

The TVA itself is formed far into the future with the goal of keeping temporal interference to a minimum. The organization claims governing responsibility over the entire omniverse, however they do have continued territorial conflict with Kang the Conqueror, the Villain for the upcoming Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie.

Who is Agent Mobius?

Agent Mobius (Marvel Studios)

Agent Mobius, played by Owen Wilson in the MCU, is an executive on the senior management team at the TVA. In the Marvel comics he has a long history with the Fantastic Four for their illegal use of time. He also has dealings with She-Hulk when Jennifer Walters is accused of messing with the timeline.

So, the character has a well established association with Kang the Conquerer, The Fantastic Four and She-Hulk, who are all characters confirmed to be appearing in the MCU at one point or another in the not so distant future. Given that Marvel opened the floodgates to the multiverse in Avengers: Endgame when the Avengers went back in time to rescue people from the blip, it makes sense that the TVA and Agent Mobius are now being introduced.

Are we going to see the TVA and Agent Mobius used beyond the Loki series? Considering Marvel’s future movies are all seemingly going to deal with the Mutiverse like Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness and Spider-man: No Way Home it would seem likely that we will.
