Who is America Chavez

Who is America Chavez?

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is shaping up to be one of the most important MCU films of all time. It has the potential to introduce Professor X, Deadpool, Mr. Fantastic, and more. This could be the movie that finally brings mutants into this universe. But those are all just possibilities at this point. What fans know for sure about this movie is that America Chavez will be making her big screen, live-action debut.

This is one of those characters that only comic book fans are super familiar with. Given the nature of her reality hopping exploits, this may be the perfect movie for her to pop up in. But it will be hard to blame people who are meeting her for the first time for being confused. Rest assured that America Chavez is a great character who could play a big part in the MCU going forward.

Let’s meet America Chavez

The early days of America Chavez were difficult and traumatic. She and her sister suffered from a disease called Edges Syndrome. Their parents took them to a secret island owned by an enigmatic billionaire to research their condition. That never ever goes wrong. There were a lot of other young women there suffering from it, as well. When the disease went into remission in America, she developed superpowers.

Not surprisingly, Mr. Gales, the enigmatic billionaire, turned out to be up to no good. Everyone fought back against him, with only America making her escape. This was the beginning of her reality-jumping adventures that saw her move through the Multiverse. She started her hero career as a street-level hero in one world but would eventually end up defending the Multiverse with her unique abilities.

Also going by the names Miss America and eventually Ms. America, she has some pretty straight-up “flying brick” powers. America Chavez can fly, move at incredible speeds, has super strength, and has a high level of invulnerability. This certainly makes her a tough customer to contend with for any villain in any backwater part of the Multiverse. But there is so much more to her than that.

America has the ability to open Star Portals which allow her to navigate the Multiverse. On top of that, these literally star-shaped portals also have the side effect of letting her travel through time. Living on the Utopian Parallel outside of the Multiverse for a time also gave her other abilities, including a radically decreased aging process, the ability to harness her internal energies, and hyper-cosmic awareness.

Ms. America in the MCU

Fans know that America Chavez will be making her MCU debut in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. Keeping in mind that she can literally kick down the barriers between realities, that makes perfect sense. Given the broken Multiverse left behind by WandaVision, Loki, What If…?, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ms. America might be the perfect hero to help fix it. Her arrival also heralds a lot of additional possibilities for the MCU.

America Chavez is a card-carrying member of the Young Avengers, a team that has been teased for years. Kate Bishop/Hawkeye, Wiccan, Speed, Patriot, and a version of Kid Loki have all appeared in various Disney+ series. And Stature, the daughter of Scott Lang/Ant-Man, has been a relatively prominent side character for a while. Now, she just needs some powers to add her into the mix.

The debut of the Young Avengers seems all but certain at this point. Hulking, a Skrull/Kree hybrid, and Marvel Boy, a young Kree warrior, have yet to pop up. But both the Skrulls and the Kree are becoming increasingly prominent. It’s only a matter of time before these characters show up, too. And Iron Lad, a young Kang the Conqueror, is also an easy addition to the MCU.

How America Chavez fits into the MCU will begin to be laid out in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It would not be a shock to see her character play a part in upcoming Disney+ series such as Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion, and Armor Wars as well as the second seasons of What If…? and Loki. But nothing is for certain in the MCU and there are always more twists and turns on the horizon, particularly when Star Portals are now available.
