Marvel fans are eagerly anticipating the multitiude of upcoming MCU projects being released next year. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels are just two such examples. However, the upcoming project that has crossed many fan’s minds more than most is Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.
The film is only set to release in 2023 but it’s grabbing more headlines than most other MCU titles. Let’s examine why this could be the case.
James Gunn left in tears
It all started a couple of months ago when James Gunn finished writing the script for the upcoming Guardians sequel. And it left him in tears.
As a Marvel fan, that isn’t the most pleasant thing to hear considering Marvel’s history with killing off popular characters. Due to this many fans began to speculate which of the intergalactic heroes would fall in the upcoming sequel. Let’s examine some evidence about who is most likely to perish in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3.
Who will die in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3?

The biggest clue spotted by fans in answering this question is the color of the title card for this movie which is grey.
A pattern that has been used for previous Guardians movies is to match the title card colors with the character who ends up dying in the movie. The title card for Guardians 1 was brown and the character who paid the sacrifice was Groot. This also occurred in the second feature film where the title card was blue and red and the sacrificial lamb was none other than Yondu Udonta, Peter Quill’s stepfather.
Expanding on this idea, I think we can come to the conclusion that Guardians 3 will be the last time we see Drax the Destroyer in the MCU. Following the title colors pattern, he seems to be the one character most likely to pass away in this third installment.
Drax’s Arc is complete

To dig a bit deeper we only need to look at Drax’s character arc in the MCU. Since the very beginning Drax’s main motivation was to make Thanos pay for killing his wife and daughter, along with his species.
This was made clear in Guardians 1 but his chance for revenge never came to fruition. At least not by his own hands. Thanos was of course wiped out when Tony Stark snapped and saved the Universe in Avengers Endgame.
With Thanos out of the picture, Drax is now a character with a fulfilled character arc who can reunite with his wife and daughter in the afterlife. In recent interviews in the media, Dave Bautista stated that he is too old to play Drax in the MCU. He went on to say that Guardians 3 will be his final MCU film.
What do you guys think about this? Do you think we will have more than one character die in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3? Let us know in the comments below or over on social media. As always, thanks for reading.
