Willem Dafoe is an icon in the eyes of superhero fans around the world. His fantastic performance as the maniacal Green Goblin in Spider-man will never be forgotten. And now he’s back! But only on one condition apparently.
Willem Dafoe performed own stunts in Spider-man No Way Home
When Willem Dafoe was approached by the studio to reprise his role as Norman Osborne in Spider-man No Way Home he only said yes on the basis that he could perform his own stunts.
To do this physical stuff was important to me. In fact, one of the first things I said to Jon (Watts) and Amy (Pascal), basically, when they pitched it to me before there was even a script, was, ‘Listen. I don’t want to just pop in there as a cameo, or just fill in in closeups. I want to do the action because that’s fun for me. And also, because it’s really impossible to add any integrity or any fun to the character if you don’t participate in these things. Because all that action stuff informs your relationship to the characters and the story, and also, it makes you earn your right to play the character in a funny way.”
Willem Dafoe
One thing to remember is that Dafoe is now 66 years old. To be able to perform those stunts at any age is impressive but we shouldn’t really be surprised given how dedicated the man is as an actor.
