Wolverine is one of the most iconic superheroes in history. As arguably the most famous member of Marvel’s X-Men, Logan was first introduced in the comics in 1974. Since then the character has gone on to appear in numerous media platforms including Movies, TV series and even a solo Video Game which is still to come.
Although Hugh Jackman did an amazing job of portraying the character over a 17 year time span, we still haven’t seen Wolverine appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to complicated studio rights issues. Luckily for us fans, when Disney purchased 21st Century Fox back in 2019 the rights for lots of fan-favorite characters returned to Marvel Studios, including Wolverine. Meaning he will definitely make his way to the MCU at some point. These are the top 5 actors that we believe could play Wolverine in the MCU.
Hardy is most well known amongst comic fans for his role as the Batman villain Bane. To play Bane the actor packed on 30 pounds of muscle showing he is willing to dedicate himself to a role. Tom Hardy is certainly a fan favorite to play Wolverine.
But there is one problem. He already plays another Marvel character in Venom. With the recent post-credit scene in Venom: Let there be Carnage suggesting that Tom Hardy’s Venom is about to cross over into the MCU, it’s unlikely Marvel would also cast him to play Logan.
Egerton is most well known for his role in the Kingsman series. He has also played Elton John in Rocket man.
When Taron Egerton’s name was first linked with Wolverine my initial thoughts were that I was less than impressed. Even Egerton himself had doubts when he was asked about playing Wolverine in the MCU. He said “As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough. I mean if the people at Marvel think I am then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere”.
Though, since Heath Ledgers performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight we should all have learned to not judge an actor based on previous characters they have portrayed. Taron Egerton is obviously a very skilled actor and just judging from this piece of fan art he could very much pull off the classic Wolverine look.
Yes, Scott Eastwood is the son of Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood. I’m not sure if credentials get any better than that, even if he is only half as good as his father.
There was a very interesting deepfake video that went viral a while back showing Eastwood as Wolverine. And it was truly uncanny. It looked just like Hugh Jackman but younger. So, if Marvel want a like-for-like replacement this could easily be the route they go down.
However, with Marvel recently seeming to be going more comic accurate, at least with their costumes, this one might be ruled out. In the comics Wolverine is only 5’3″ tall. We’ll only know for sure which route they go down once the casting is announced.
As you can see from the fan edit above, Jon Bernthal looks like the perfect casting for Logan. He’s got the attitude, the muscles and some fantastic facial hair. Unfortunately, like with Tom Hardy, Bernthal already plays another Marvel character.
Bernthal played Frank Castle aka The Punisher in Netflix’s Marvel series. He may very well return to the role in some capacity in the future with all the multiversal shenanigans going on with Marvel. We still think he looks cool as Logan though.
Last but not least is Antony Starr. Starr is most well known for his role as Homelander in The Boys series on Amazon Prime. Starr plays the troubled and complex Superhero (villain?) so well that we wouldn’t at all be surprised if he could nail the role of Wolverine in the MCU.
Judging from the fan art alone, he definitely pulls off the Logan look.
There are also a couple of honourable mentions for the list. Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves and Daniel Radcliffe are just some of the other names out their in the multiverse that we could see as Wolverine. Only time will tell. I’m sure Kevin Feige will get it right as he awlays does, one way or another.
These are the actors that we would like to see play Wolverine in the MCU but what about you? Who would you like to play Logan? Let us know in the comments below or over on any of our social media @GeeksGonnaGeek. As always, thanks for reading.
